Northern Attitudes Dance Company

A BIT OF BACKGROUND

Northern Attitudes Dance Company (NADC) is a Dance Theatre Company specialising in Contemporary Theatre Practice. We create original, narrative-based choreography for Northern Irish audiences, celebrating the culture, heritage, and uniqueness of our island.

Led by Artistic Director and Choreographer Michael McEvoy, our productions are highly physical and dynamic, often interwoven with Irish language, music, and dance. Our work shares Northern Irish stories and perspectives with international contemporary audiences.

Our mission is to expand the professional dance sector in Northern Ireland through two key streams: Creation and Development.

Creation: We employ dancers from across the UK and Ireland to join us in Belfast to develop new works that highlight Northern Ireland's rich cultural identity.

Development: At the heart of our mission is ‘Attitudes Youth Dance’ (AYD), inspired by the UK’s Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) programme. AYD provides three months of weekly vocational training to aspiring dancers from across Northern Ireland. This initiative encourages young talent to pursue professional dance training, breaking the stigma that a dance career isn’t viable on this island. The programme results in the presentation of an original work.

Through creation and development, NADC strives to inspire and grow the next generation of dance talent while bringing Northern Irish perspectives to the world stage.

Investment & Support Opportunities

At NADC We are seeking investment and support to sustain and grow our annual programmes.

In 2026, we plan to present Agus an Ghlóir as part of the Belfast International Arts Festival. This original work, inspired by Irish folklore, will bring to life the forgotten Sidhe, offering Northern Irish audiences a powerful and captivating exploration of our cultural heritage.

2025: Investing in Research & Development

In 2025, we are focusing on the Research & Development phase for Agus an Ghlóir, covering areas such as artists’ fees, residency costs, and collaborative creative processes. By investing in this phase, you are supporting artistic innovation and helping us bring bold new ideas to life for the stage.

2025: Attitudes Youth Dance (AYD)

We are also working to secure funding for the launch of Attitudes Youth Dance in 2025. At NADC, we are deeply committed to creating nurturing programmes for young performers, and our ambition is to offer AYD as a completely free programme.

This three-month professional development opportunity aims to transform the lives of young dancers across Northern Ireland by removing financial barriers and ensuring access for all, regardless of class or economic background. Your investment in AYD is an investment in the next generation of dancers, with the potential to transform the Northern Irish dance sector for years to come.

By supporting NADC, you are championing creativity, accessibility, and the growth of professional dance in Northern Ireland. Together, we can make a lasting impact on our cultural and artistic landscape.

All investment to this small and passionate company to go directly benefit the people of Northern Ireland through employment opportunities, development opportunities and the delivery of accessible art for our devoted audiences.
