Belfast Photo Festival/RENDR & Shotdeck 2023

Context

Shotdeck is an online library of film, providing the largest collection of fully searchable high-definition movie images in the world.

RENDR is a festival exploring the space between creativity and technology across film, gaming, animation and immersive.

Challenge

The challenge was to promote Shotdeck as an online resource and educational tool to both the arts and creative industries of the UK and Ireland through the international reach of RENDR festival.

Both RENDR and Shotdeck seek to inspire existing and future creatives through research, reference, discovery and education. Whether they be directors, cinematographers, designers, ad folks, film students or visual artists, Shotdeck and RENDR aim to engage the same audiences and customers through the UK, Europe and the world so this was a perfect pairing.

"This has represented the beginnings of a lasting partnership between Shotdeck and RENDR, with its success enabling it to continue towards ambitious plans to expand and tour the event outside of Belfast"

Solution

The Festival provided an ideal platform for a virtual production discussion and an introduction to Shotdeck, to help build brand development and reach new audiences.

The RENDR Festival’s Master of Ceremonies (MC) delivered an Introduction To Shotdeck to a large audience on the main stage of the Festival. During this presentation she shared the benefits of using the platform as a professional and educational tool for bringing creative visions to life. Right from pitch, to prep, to post.

With a panel consisting of industry leaders, from the likes of Lucasfilm, Industrial Light & Magic, to the makers of the Lord of The Rings – Rings of Power, a Virtual Production Discussion event reinforced the brands of both partners and their connections to industry innovation and the film industry’s leading practitioners.

The Festival provided the technical capability for promoting both Shotdeck and RENDR through a series of short videos displayed on large screens during intervals to promote both companies, the partnership, and their educational and developmental offerings.

Targeted advertisements delivered via festival newsletters and tickets, specifically designed and setup to reach the target audiences and customers of both partners, was an effective additional means of raising both brand profiles.

Results

The sell-out RENDR Festival enabled Shotdeck to reach a large audience of their target customer base. Through regular on-screen advertisements and the featured presentation by the Festival MC, they were introduced to 900 people per day over 2 days. Subsequent integration into the Festival’s promotional videos and newsletters helped to further reinforce the partnership, company offer and brand visibility. This directly resulted in a number of new subscribers to the Shotdeck platform.

"This is a partnership which makes sense and enables RENDR to further enhance its educational offer to those seeking to research and develop their career in the creative industries"
