Deloitte & Ulster Orchestra

The Context

Since it was founded in 1966, the Ulster Orchestra has been at the forefront of musical life in Northern Ireland and the Orchestra’s full-time musicians form the region’s only professional symphony orchestra. Deloitte is a multi-national professional services network who aim to make a positive difference on the things that matter most. The things that matter to their clients, their people and society.

The Challenge & The Solution

Deloitte had a number of strategic objectives that this partnership with Ulster Orchestra was designed to help them achieve. They would fulfil their company priorities across education, community engagement and corporate social responsibility by making an impact on their communities through sponsorship of the schools programme; supporting health and wellbeing in the workplace through opportunities to volunteer and get involved with music, as well as enrichment through attendance at performances.

The project involved Deloitte's support of six schools concerts, performed by the Ulster Orchestra in venues across Northern Ireland. Venues included Derry-Londonderry, Newry, Enniskillen, Belfast, Omagh and Ballymena. Attendees were local primary school age children. The response to the concerts was fantastic with some wonderful feedback. Deloitte staff attended all concerts and helped out with front of house, showing the children to their seats and joining in with the music.

The Results

This project helped to support Deloitte’s objectives to embed culture into its organisation and use links with creative organisations to support volunteering.

As part of this objective, Deloitte hope to assist recruitment by demonstrating the organisation’s reputation as a good citizen, positive about volunteering and personal development. Concerts supporting schools and education reinforce this profile and soften the edges of a business that has international reach.

●       22 staff from Deloitte volunteered across the six concerts.

●       63 musicians participated in each concert.

●       3673 children

●       416 teachers

●       4089 audience in total
